| Fatal carbon monoxide incident |
Tue. Feb 5th 2013
At 17:52 hours, the WRFD EMS was dispatched to 809 West Ridge Mews on the report of an unresponsive female. Upon arrival, the 85 year old female patient was found to be in cardiac arrest. CPR was initiated by the WRPD and WRFD EMS crew. With CPR in progress, a carbon monoxide detector sounded in the common hallway of the condo unit. Asst. Chief Phillips requested the WRFD to respond and investigate the activated alarm. WR firefighters entered the structure and found over 600 ppm of carbon monoxide in the condo unit. The entire building was then evacuated and the heating units and water heaters were shut down. PSE&G responded to the scene and recorded carbon monoxide levels at 800+ ppm. The building was ventilated and the residents were allowed back into their units. The cause of the carbon monoxide was determined to be a faulty heating unit. The residence did not have a carbon monoxide detector in it.
All WR units were available at 20:10 hours.
